The Mercure brand, the first “internationally mid-scale branded” hotel, brings business travellers and leisure guests a new choice during their stays in Hanoi and Hue.

Known for more than 35 years and part of the Accor Group, Mercure exemplifies expert hospitality and personalised services. Operating in more than 50 countries around the world, it boasts hotels with distinctive personalities carefully preserved through the type of services offered and the décor, both of which vary from one hotel to the next.

Mercure Hanoi La Gare, which opened on September 1, 2009, is the first international four-star hotel in the capital Hanoi. Located opposite the Hanoi Railway Station, Mercure Hanoi La Gare is an inviting oasis in the heart of the bustling city centre. The modern mid-scale hotel reflects Hanoi’s history and culture, and is characterised by its contemporary design.

The hotel is conveniently situated in the heart of the city centre on Ly Thuong Kiet, within the commercial precinct near foreign embassies, State companies and Ministries, opposite the historic railway station and within walking distance of the Old Quarter and the Hanoi International Exhibition Centre. Other tourist attractions such as the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu), Hoan Kiem Lake, and the Hanoi Opera House are a walk of less than 15 minutes from the hotel.

All of the hotel’s 102 rooms are equipped with premium in-room amenities and wireless internet access. Double glazed windows in guest rooms help insulate external noise as well as maintain thermal comfort. Other hotel facilities include the Brasserie Le Pavillion Restaurant, serving Vietnamese and international cuisine, a fitness centre, a tour desk, family and meeting rooms, non-smoking floors and a business centre.

“With a modern and contemporary design, Mercure Hanoi La Gare is a brand new hotel that is managed professionally under internationally-recognised standards, whereas most of the existing hotels are not in the prime location, ageing (some over 10 years) and in much need of renovation,” said Mr Vasu Thirasak, Director of Communications - Southeast Asia, Accor Hospitality.

According to Mr Thirasak, Mercure Hanoi La Gare has an average of occupancy of 75-80 per cent since opening in September 2009 and its room rate is around $80.

“The hotel has a typical ‘European’ look,” a guest from San Francisco wrote on tripadvisor.com. “Rooms are clean, spacious (I had a superior room) and contemporary. The bed is super comfortable and huge, so it is definitely a plus after an exhausting trip.”

“We expect many international delegations to stay in our hotel during Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary, and we will provide our in-house guests with information about the city’s activities during the week of celebrations,” said Mr Thirasak.

Opening at the same time as Mercure Hanoi La Gare, the 110-room Mercure Hue Gerbera benefits from its prime location on Le Loi Street, where breathtaking views of the Perfume River can be enjoyed from most of the guest rooms. The hotel’s facilities include the Calamus Restaurant, serving Western and local Hue specialties, a lobby lounge and a deli, a bar, a day spa, an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. The hotel also has extensive conference facilities providing a choice of a 450 sq m ballroom featuring two-storey floor-to-ceiling glass windows, or a 300 sq m dividable meeting room.

Hue, a UNESCO heritage site, is located in central Vietnam on the banks of the Perfume River and is approximately one hour flying time from Hanoi. Having undergone several periods of turmoil, Hue has been left with many precious architectural sites. The main attractions include the Citadel and Forbidden City, the old Imperial complex, pagodas, and many emperors’ tombs in walled compounds containing palaces, temples and lakes. Ms Charlotte Gutte, Regional Director of Sales - Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, South Korea & Japan, says “Vietnam has needed high quality mid scale accommodation for a long time and these two hotels are a great start for both the Mercure brand in the country and in fulfilling the needs of diverse travellers to Vietnam.”

Mr Patrick Basset, Accor Vice President - Vietnam, Philippines, South Korea & Japan, added: “The Mercure hotel brand is known globally for its comfort, service quality and hospitality, which appeal to both leisure and business travellers. Vietnam offers a great opportunity for the brand’s expansion, where it will fill a clear need in the mid-scale segment. Both of these Mercure hotels are distinct in their locations, charismatic in style and built in harmony with their surroundings.”
